Parachute history and facts
Parachutes have been used since the late 18th century. The word "parachute" was derived from the French word "para" which means "to protect against" the word "chute" which means "fall".
Somewhere between 1483 and 1485 came the legendary Leonardo Da Vinci parachute with initial concept. A sketch made a pyramid-shaped canvas tent like structure, designed to evacuate people from high buildings. What is amazing about this sketch is that it shows a man suspended from four cables of suspension were properly attached tent! However, this concept was never executed and remained a sketch for a very long time. But Da Vinci gave the initial idea on how a parachute would work, or that the mechanism could be effectively tested and put into operation! This is why Leonardo da Vinci was considered the "Father parachute".
Today, the parachute is used to evacuate people from a burning aircraft and other military aircraft. It is used for emergency landings, to transport food and medicines in areas inaccessible to tropical forests, deserts, oceans and land of high altitude.
Parachutes are used to reduce landing speed of the bombs, giving more time to evacuate the aircraft. Parachutes have found useful in space technology, transportation being used to space interesting Parachute Facts capsule safely back on earth. It also became a popular sport parachuting adventure.
Here history and how parachutes parachuting have changed over the centuries.

2. Paolo Guidotti
Guidotti tried to fly in 1590 and is considered the first man who tried to put into practice the concept of flight. He was an artist and an enthusiast in terms of inventions. What does an invention he made, drawing from Leonardo Da Vinci. However, he did something that was in any way similar to the sketch. His invention had wings made of whale bones, which were wrapped with feathers. Guidotti jumped from a building and managed to fly for a few seconds before collapsing on the roof of a house. He broke his leg in this experiment and has never tried to test the concept. However, his attempt is still very appreciated.
3. Fausto Veranzio - "Flying Man"
In 1617, Fausto Veranzio conceptual project was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and created a rigid parachute using some cloth. He called it "Volans homos", which means Flying Man. Veranzio is considered to be the first man who built a model parachute and flew with him. He was 61 years old when he tested the parachute and Campanile San Marco jumped from Venice. However, this event was not only introduced to people many years later.

4. Sebastian Lenormand
In 1783, the physicist and inventor French successfully managed to land on the ground using a parachute with a diameter of about 4 m. His parachute was made of canvas and wooden frames. Observatory Lenormand jumped from Montpellier in France. The design concept of his invention was to make a mechanism that could help evacuate people from fires in tall buildings.

6. Jerome Lalande - fans parachute
Jacques-André Garnerin made the first successful jump in 1797. He used a non-rigid parachute and jumped from a balloon with hydrogen to 2438 meters. After the French astronomer Jerome Lalande jump suggested to introduce some changes, including small holes in the roof top of the parachute. This change is still in use today, and is called ventilation parachute, with the purpose to prevent oscillations while flying and while landing.
7. Kathe Paulus
In 1890, Kathe Paulus was considered the first professional parachutist. It is preferred to use the folded parachute exhibition, which requires that "strings" or cut them manually with a knife.
8. Use in war of parachutes
Using parachutes was banned until last years of World War. However, some pilots used them from 1916 onward, without official permission in order to save lives. The reason was that once the plane was out of control, seemed a waste to save lives. Air services have realized then that it was better to lose a few planes than pilots trained and trained well.
The brothers Montgolfier, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne have invented the first hot air balloon in the world in 1782, which called it Montgolfière. They have to go through some fist unsuccessful attempts to finally reach success. They decided to make a public demonstration of their claims invention of a real aircraft. This demonstration took place in Annonay, France, on June 5, 1783.
In 1918 the U.S. Air Force has formed the first section at Wilbur Wright Field parachutes. Floyd J. Smith and others have suggested parachutes pull cable or ring with blade diameter of 9 meters. In 1919, Leslie Irvin made the first jump using this mechanism (model A), and made a successful landing after a free fall from 457 meters to 128 kilometers per hour. Thereafter, the air campaign was formed Irving skydiving. The S model has evolved and was named C-9, remained in the army for many years.
9. Knack and Madelung - leave the protective screen lamellar
This design was invented in 1951 to replace the laminated protective screen parachute for the aircraft and is still used today, with modern modifications have been introduced.
11. Domina Jalbert - dynamic air parafoil parachutes
This parachute has a unique design with rectangular arches that form. It is also the first model that allowed the racer to focus parachute, like hand gliders. However, very limited military use, because it takes more air space to fly, and also is highly visible making it an easy target during combat missions. Military missions require less obvious models, and prefer, therefore, parafoil over conventional models.
They have introduced parachutes that could withstand speeds and high altitudes! This was the beginning of the modern day parachutes in 1930. Laminated safety parachute panel was created in this period, in order to reduce speed for landing trasportarii heavy objects to be held so low impact and minimal damage. For the first time, the parachute was used to reduce landing speed of aircraft in 1937, gave credit to the Germans. This technique has successfully slowed the aircraft deceleration levels, and has not stopped moving boat. This new technology has retractable brakes, which provided a higher efficiency during landing.
10. Ring slot parachute
Parachutes history began with legendary Leonardo Da Vinci. Ironically, his project finally seems to be more practical. This was done in a parachute by Adrian Nicholas current run in the UK in 2000.
